This month, I am beginning a State Library of Victoria Creative Fellowship. I have a quiet space, a doorway away from the The Dome. I also have the assistance and support of the Library Staff and access to all the Library holds.
I will be studying life at Coranderrk Aboriginal Station, established in 1863 on the banks of the Yarra River near what is now Healesville. Using photographs, diaries, journals, letters, maps, newspaper articles and anything else I find, I will try to build a picture of the people, the buildings, the place, work, rest, and life in general.
Thank you to the State Library for this opportunity. As the note from a past Fellow on the whiteboard in my room states, I think I am ‘in for a very special year … full of reward, challenge and satisfaction.’
